For the Carrington Academy childcare center, Randall-Paulson Architects was commissioned to design a building compatible in scale and style to a residential context, but that did not look like a house. American Shingle style and similar color palettes, materials and details blend with other amenities but ultimately create a separate identity.
The first floor contains twelve classrooms, a multi purpose room, and an activity room, with support corporate offices on the upper level. Carrington Academy serves children from infant to kindergarten, and an after school program for older children, with a capacity of 269.
Architectural touches such as the entry focal point lend a unique identity to the building. A variety of materials, textures and an ordered but irregular window rhythm were used to diversify the look. To create depth, the architects added porches. Tying everything together, an appropriately scaled roof was carefully selected to avoid overpowering the building.
