The suburban arts boom is spreading to Kennesaw. A new, privately owned $35 million performing arts center already has attracted the attention of the Cobb Symphony Orchestra, which hopes to make the new theater its home.
The Dozier Centre for the Performing Arts, being built by Atlanta developer Don Dozier, will include a 600-seat theater, another smaller theater, three dance studios and recording and rehearsal space when it opens in August.
"This place is a godsend," Cobb Symphony conductor Michael Alexander said. "It will give us legitimacy."
The Dozier Centre, which is expected to book local and touring acts, is opening at a time when theaters across suburban Atlanta are seeing a boom in attendance. Theater directors in Roswell, Duluth and Marietta are among those reporting increases in subscribers.
