Serendipity rather than prescience led Michael Randall and Alex Paulson to start their own firm in 1993, a move that positioned them to catch the wave of economic prosperity of the past seven years. Nevertheless it takes more than good timing to grow from two architects to a firm of 30, and espand in terms of both markets and geography. The founders are students of the business, learning and adjusting the firm’s practices, and they are students of their clients’ needs, doing what they believe good architects must do: listen well and be responsive.
