Randall-Paulson Architects to Receive American Concrete Institute 1st Place ACI 2007 Award for Design of 372,359 Square Foot Cardinal Health Facility in Buford, Ga.
ROSWELL, Ga. - Randall-Paulson Architects, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, has been awarded a first place award in the industrial category of the American Concrete Institute’s 2007 Dan R. Brown Awards Competition for design of the 372,359 square foot Cardinal Health regional office and distribution facility that opened in Buford, Ga., last year.
Michael B. Randall, co-founder and partner in the firm, said the Georgia Chapter of the American Concrete Institute notified the firm it will present the 2007 ACI Award at The Awards Presentation Ceremony in Atlanta on January 17, 2008. The award is a very high honor bestowed by the Georgia Chapter of ACI, Randall said.
The Buford facility is the second Cardinal Health project Randall-Paulson Architects has designed, Randall said. The first was a Baltimore office/distribution building.
Randall said Cardinal Health’s Buford facility is unique in many ways.
“Cardinal Health is a global provider of products and services that improve the safety and productivity of health care and ranks as one of the nation’s leading providers of nuclear pharmacy services and specialty pharmaceuticals,” Randall said. “Design of the Cardinal Health regional office and distribution facility entailed very stringent requirements for security, environmental quality and efficient inventory, packaging and distribution capabilities,” he said.
The facility, built by Conlan Company in Atlanta, includes 24,604 square feet of office and conference space and 347,755 square feet of secure warehouse and distribution space.
Design of the two-story office component utilized natural stone and exposed steel lintels to express three dominant activity zones --- an open office area, closed offices and lockers, and conference areas. Security considerations required distinct entrances for employees and visitors separated by a curtained glass wall.
“We are very proud of the facility design and we are delighted with the ACI award,” said Randall.
